In their hands, the company will continue to deliver high quality projects, maintaining a strong operational focus and embracing the latest building technology. The strong tradition of collaboration with partners, clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders remains at the core of the business, and these partnerships will see the business expand and evolve in the coming years.
03 History
Spanning over 6 and a half decades, the Crema Group story began with the vision of company founder Gilberto 'Beppi' Crema. Arriving from Italy in 1951, Beppi started working with cousins Dino and Terry Camillo, who ran a small terrazzo, concrete and formwork business known as Camillo Brothers. When Dino and Tery returned to Italy in the early 1960s, Beppi refocused the business on concrete and formwork. Under Beppi's guidance, the Camillo Brothers business expanded in the 1970s, taking on larger building and development projects. In the 1980s, Beppi's three sons, Luciano, Romeo and Louis joined the business, each with different areas of expertise.
During the 1980s, the company continued to build upon strong relationships it had developed with its clients. The business was rebranded as Crema Camillo, and the new headquarters were established in Salmon Street, Port Melbourne. This included a new precast factory, which saw the establishment of Cambar Precast. Further growth in the 1990s resulted in the creation of another specialist company, Piave Premix Concrete.
The company's proud family tradition continues today, with third generation Crema's now working in the business in various roles of expertise.

Beppi Crema joins the Camillo brothers after migrating to Australia from the Veneto region in Northern Italy. The business is focused on terrazzo (marble tiles) and formwork.

1964 - 1966
Dino and Terry Camillo return to Italy, whilst Beppi stays in Melbourne to grow the business. The company’s focus shifts from terrazzo to concrete and formwork. Beppi begins to build strong business networks in the Italian migrant building community.

Camillo Concrete Structures becomes a Melbourne pioneer in in-situ tilt-up precast construction.

Late 1970's
Beppi’s three sons, Luciano, Romeo and Louis, join the business with complimentary areas of expertise; architecture, construction and finance.

Early 1980’s
From Camillo Brothers to Crema Camillo, the company adopts a new business name. Luciano, Romeo and Louis continue to grow the business, developing a new construction division of the company.

The company moves to it’s current headquarters - 262 Salmon Street, Port Melbourne.

Cambar Precast is established at the new headquarters in Port Melbourne.

Piave Premix Concrete is established in Port Melbourne, one of Melbourne’s closest concrete batching plants to the CBD.

The construction company name changes from Crema Camillo to Crema Constructions.

The company’s proud family tradition continues when the third generation of Crema's join the business. Crema Group now employs a team of over 200 staff, and has completed over 300 projects across Melbourne and Interstate.

Crema Constructions
With a history spanning over 65 years and an enviable track record, Crema Constructions is an iconic Melbourne building company. From humble beginnings in 1951, the company has grown from a three-person operation into an unrivalled market leader, with over 200 employees. Our focus is on delivering quality buildings and exceeding out client’s expectations, regardless of the scale of the project. With proven experience on projects from $5 million to $150 million, Crema Constructions provides a complete ‘design and construct’ package. Our knowledge extends across all major sub-industries, including commercial, retail, residential and mixed-used projects. Over the past five years, Crema Constructions has delivered multiple mixed-use developments including over 1,000 apartments in inner Melbourne. Our outstanding work has been recognised with a Master Builder of the Year award from Master Builders Association of Victoria.
Camillo Builders
Another wholly owned subsidiary of Crema Group, Camillo Builders focuses on bespoke, largely high-end construction projects in the sub $25 million category. Established with the same senior management structure, quality and safety procedures and core values as Crema Constructions, Camillo Builders focuses on delivering exceptional construction outcomes for its clients. “Camillo Bros” was the original name of Camillo Builders and was established over 65 years ago by Terry and Dino Camillo, cousins of Beppi Crema.
Cambar Precast
As a pioneer in precast concrete in the 1970s, Cambar Precast is an innovative company at the leading edge of concrete construction. Capable of delivering highly specialised and bespoke precast solutions, Cambar has proven experience in design, engineering, mould-making and casting. With a team of 30 people and a production plant only a few kilometers away from the Melbourne CBD, Cambar continues to develop an ever-expanding range of competitive precast building products. Cambar’s operations are based upon a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of excellence in production whilst simultaneously adopting the latest techniques in precast construction.
Piave Premix Concrete
Established in 1992, Piave Premix Concrete has quickly become a major supplier of premix concrete for Melbourne’s building industry. Piave’s state-of-the-art plant in Port Melbourne is the base for a crew comprising 19 trucks, 8 truck-and-trailers and a tanker for bulk cement. An experienced team of concrete experts provides competitive service to a diverse range of clients, small and large. Only minutes from Melbourne’s CBD and surrounding inner city suburbs, the central location of Piave’s batching plant gives the company a unique competitive advantage.
SG Formwork
SG Formwork was formed in July 2014 with a clear vision to be Melbourne's premier high rise concrete and formwork structure company. The concept was simple - to hand select quality projects and deliver an exceptional product. The drive behind SG Formwork comes from the directors' combined industry experience of over 60 years. The company is constantly ensuring uncompromised safety, quality and program. SG Formwork directors have been behind some of Melbourne's most high profile projects, including Eureka Tower, Crown Casino, AXA Building and the RACV Building Melbourne.
